BULLETIN number 7

Survey Records
Otter records for Spring. Summer, Autumn 05 and Winter and Spring 06 are being uploaded onto Dorset Environmental Records Centre's system in the next month or so. The results from the surveys of the Asker and Mangerton and Christchurch harbour have also been submitted to DERC. This means that the otter picture is pretty much up to date in Dorset thanks to the otter group. This is a magnificent achievement, and below is a map, produced by DERC, which shows the 2005 otter situation. Summer 06 records should be with your Area Co-ordinator by now, and Autumn records are due in November.

New and Retiring Surveyors
Mike Green, Helen Smith, Liz Coulter, Jim Webster, and Gail Bennett have now retired from surveying. Thanks go to them for all their efforts over the years. Our training day in July produced some new surveyors, who should be getting into the swing of things over the next few months.

DOG membership
250 individuals and organizations are now members of DOG. Most of you are known to me via surveying, shows, other conservation work or as members of DWT. As you can appreciate, the administration of such a large group takes a lot of time (and money), so I am trying to work out if the people I don't know still want to remain members. Hence if I haven't heard from you in a while, I have enclosed a form to fill in regarding our mailing list. PLEASE don't think I am trying to get rid of anyone, just let me know if you wish to keep being bothered by otter news!

STILL WANTED: Volunteers for Winfrith & Tadnoll River Restoration Project. Practical works are now in progress - call Sarah Williams on 01305 264620 or email swilliams@dorsetwildlife.co.uk for further info.
