EVENT: New Otter Spotter Training

Saturday 7th July 10.30am - 3.00pm DWT, Brooklands Farm
There are still a few spaces left on this course, but please get in touch with me to book a place as soon as possible. Cost £10 (£5 unwaged). Cheques to be made payable to Dorset Wildlife Trust.

REPORT: Otter, Mink and Water Vole Survey of the Rivers Wey and Jordan
No otters or mink evidence found, but lots of water vole evidence; droppings footprints, a dead animal (now in the freezer!), burrows, latrines and a live sighting. Thanks to all who attended and to the Sea Life Centre. River Wey Society and RSPB. Emily White is now sorting out some regular survey sites for the area and has recruited some new spotters- thanks Emily for all your hard work.

NEWS: Otter Skull
DWT members reported an otter skull that had been dug up (by badgers!) about 50 yards from the river at Spetisbury. It was confirmed as otter by John Stobart, but we have no idea how old it is (see bottom right).

NEWS: Otter Ledge at Charlborough Park
The Environment Agency has persuaded the Highways Agency to install an otter ledge under the A31 at Charlborough Park where several otter road deaths have occurred (see bottom left). This ledge means that even in high flow/water level conditions, otters can pass safely under the road. Sandie Moors is thanked for her persistence in this matter.
