Otter Sightings.

Dorset's otters are seen if you are out at the right time:

2008

July/August: An otter and 2 cubs were seen at Longham.

March: 3 Otters seen in West Bay

Also sightings in Dorchester and Warehma marshes.

2006

October: A dog otter was seen on the River Stour at Muscliffe

Late September: An otter was seen on the River Allen at Wimborne.

Whilst attending several events in Bournemouth this summer we had a number of reports of otters being seen along the stour around the Throop and Muscliffe area.

Otters

2005

Ann Hyland and Sheila Dawsey, regular surveyors at Sherborne Park saw otters in the lake early one October morning.
There were definitely 2 otters, and very possibly 3, swimming, playing and fishing for about 15 minutes.

In September Dorset Otter Group surveyor Steve Urquart chanced upon an otter early one morning on the River Stour by Longham. The otter was calmly feeding, clearly visible from the road, for about 30 seconds.

An otter was watched swimming and diving from Kings Mill House at the confluence of the Rivers Stour and Lydden.

Close to Canford School an otter was seen by new DOG member Mary Harper.
