After a pleasant drive down to Princetown we unloaded the kit and settled into
the bunkhouse with hotdogs for supper.
With our routes already planned once we'd had our fill of cooked
breakfast we took the minibus out to the north moor. Although soggy
unfoot, the bright sunshine beat the light breeze to make it a warm
clear day. The two Explorer teams had a couple of long hikes planned
and set off in our respective directions, kilts and all. After a good
yomp across streams and over moor we navigated round taking in numerous
tors to reach the spot earmarked for the lunch break. We had passed
dozens of Fox moth caterpillars which weren't ready to hibernate in
the unseasonably warm weather. After lunch atop the tor we headed
on to cross the Dart river and return to the bunkhouse.
After dinner, with the routes decided and the plans written we settled
down for some Jenga entertainment. The unusual clothing theme was
continuing amongst the explorers with animal suits.
On Sunday morning we again had a cooked breakfast (this time including
black pudding), before setting out on the hike. The initial dense
fog didn't last and it was soon bright and sunny again.
This time on the south moor, we hiked out to the west and back in
before lunch. All too soon after a shower and some cake it was time
to clean up and head home.
